Time Inc. and its Real Simple Magazine title are well known for quality and innovation. It was therefore no surprise that the development and design of the Real Simple cooking facilities and photography studio needed to be innovative and fully capable to deliver the quality that is demanded.
CONANT ARCHITECTS was engaged early in the process to evaluate various real estate options for the project. The space needed to have high ceiling spaces, excellent natural daylight as well as some spectacular views. All of this occurred in a loft building in lower Manhattan. The space had previously been used for manufacturing, so a full mechanical system, laundry venting as well as natural gas system needed be incorporated into the project.
As a life styles magazine, the Real Simple magazine staff is used to life’s comforts and conveniences. A fully flexible photo studio encircles an enormous kitchen. Camera shoots can be assembled during food preparation phases or afterward at comfortable day lighted dining areas. The prop storage room was given special consideration, in providing maximum capacity and accessibility.
